Massive Turnout for Big Walk

Photos

800 people turned out last Sunday to walk from Carrigaline to Crosshaven for charity. The walk started in the centre of Carrigaline on a fine sunny afternoon and finished in the square in Crosshaven, a total distance of about 8km.

Rockin’ Gerry kept the crowds entertained until the official start of the walk shortly after 3pm. First to leave was Irish Olympic walker, Robbie Heffernan accompanied by a few runners. Then members of Carrigaline Pipe Band led the walkers out of the car park towards the Croshaven road. Refreshments were provided along the way and the Owenabue Valley Traditional Group provided entertainment. The walk finished in the square in Croshaven where the crowds enjoyed the fine weather and live music provided by the Aristocrats. The event has raised over €12,000 so far and the proceeds will go towards the Mercy Hospital Foundation, Croshaven Development and a number of Lion’s Club charities. Some of the money will also be used for the on-going development of the walkway itself. A big thanks to all walkers, sponsors and everyone who helped to make this a very enjoyable and successful event.
