The St. Stephens Day Challenge match is an annual event that is contested between Carrigaline Utd AFC and Carrigaline Hurling and Football Club.

Now in it’s 6th year, the St. Stephens Day Challenge Match has raised over €15,000 so far, with all monies raised given to the Carrigaline Lions Club who distribute it to local charities.

Each year this match alternates between Carrigaline Soccer Club and Carrigaline GAA Club with the host club playing their preferred code. 2011 Cycle Classic Launched

Photos

Carrigaline & District Lions Club Annual Cycle Classic was co-launched recently by former professional cyclist Sean Kelly and broadcast personality and rugby pundit George Hook along with Mr. John Doran, President of Carrigaline and District Lions Club. The cyclling classic is celebrating its 20th year this year and from humble beginnings, it has grown into a huge charity event. In the first year, 1991, 18 cyclists took part and raised €2,500. It has grown steadily year by year and last year 200 cyclists took part and in total over €550,000 has been raised for local charities over the years.

This year’s cycle takes place on Saturday 8th October and is sponsored by Mr. John O’Connor of Victoria Cross Cycles. The route this year will be from Carrigaline to Bantry and organisers are hoping that it will be bigger and better than ever. All cyclists must make a contribution of at least €300 and this includes dinner and overnight accomodation in the Maritime Hotel. Participants have a choice of cycling the entire 95km route or may also opt to cycle 65km or 35km. Transport will be provided to ferry participants to the appropriate start locations. All cyclists will finish at the Maritime Hotel in Bantry where the cycle dinner dance will be held on Saturday night. For details, information and sponsorship cards, please contact Mark Ginn at Mark Ginn & Associates, Station Road, Carrigaline, Tel. 021 4373088. An entry form is available here.
